What is the SNAP Work Rules Screener
MyWayfinder’s SNAP Work Rules Screener is a short, guided online tool for people who already receive SNAP. Take the screener to find out:
- Whether you are exempt from SNAP eligibility changes
- Any documentation needed and how to submit
- How to meet work requirements
- Community support options
- Clear next steps
If You Are Exempt
Many people who receive SNAP are exempt from work rules. This may include individuals who receive disability benefits, have qualifying health conditions, are participating in treatment, are caregivers, or meet certain age requirements.
But be safe and be sure.
Take a few minutes to check if there is anything you need to do to stop your SNAP access from being interrupted. And keep in mind, even someone who is exempt may be required to submit documents to prove exemption.
If You Need to Take Action
For those who aren’t exempt from the new work rules, the screener will guide you to next steps. You’ll be connected to support such as local employment opportunities, job training programs, and volunteer placements.
Based on your screener answers you may be referred to RochesterWorks, Lifespan for older adults, Veterans Outreach Center for Veterans, and/or 211 Lifeline.
For a detailed list of approved ways to keep SNAP eligibility, head to the Monroe County website.
Uploading Proof and Staying Compliant
Some SNAP recipients will need to upload proof of exemption or work activities. The screener explains what type of document is needed, where to submit it, and important time-sensitive requirements.
One option is NYDocSubmit, a free app that lets you submit documents directly to the State from your phone. No trip to the DSS office or mailing required. The app requires some initial setup, and using it may count toward your mobile data.
Take the Next Step, Your Way

You do not have to navigate this alone. Support is available through MyWayfinder, connecting you to trusted community resources, including employment services and food pantries. You can also call, text, or chat with 211/LIFE LINE to receive live assistance and referrals.
